5 Essential Apps to Have During Hurricanes

We are in the eye of storm, literally. One hurricane after another.

Hurricane Irma is now the fifth category downfall and is moving towards the US Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, and the Dominican Republic. It is not certain that Irma will make landfall in the other part of United States. However, Florida is going to take a hit.

Following are five Apps that you may find handy during Hurricane, Disaster Management and/or evacuation.

Hurricane -- American Red Cross

Be ready for severe weather with Hurricane by American Red Cross. Monitor conditions in your area or throughout the storm track, prepare your family and home, find help and let others know you are safe – a must have for anyone who lives in an area where a hurricane may strike or has loved ones who do. It is available in English and Spanish.

FEMA App by Department Of Homeland Security

The FEMA app is your one-stop-shop with tools and tips to keep you safe before, during, and after disasters.

Stay updated with weather-related alerts from the U.S. National Weather Service. Upload and share your disaster photos to help emergency managers.

Save a custom list of the items in your family’s emergency kit, as well as the places you will meet in case of an emergency.

Get tips on what to do before, during, and after over 20 types of disasters.

Pocket First Aid & CPR

The recently redesigned Pocket First Aid and CPR app now reflects the updated American Heart Association's guidelines on CPR and emergency cardiovascular care. It has clear and concise instructions for adult, child and infant CPR, as well as 34 videos and 46 high-resolution illustrations.

With this app, one man even survived for more than 60 hours under a pile of rubble during the 2010 Haiti earthquake. Its newly added search functionality is nifty, too. It is available for iOS and Android, each for $1.99

Zello (Walkie Talkie)

During Hurricanes or Disasters, communication is the key and Zello lets you join instantly and allows you to send messages back and forth. Downloads of the app spiked during Harvey, and now, as Irma descends on Caribbean islands, Zello has reached the top of the App Store's free-apps chart.
